GET TEMPORARY BROWS WITH THE CLIO KILL BROW DUAL TATTOO PEN

AMY DANG on MARCH 29, 2020

Ladies, let’s be real. Eyebrow maintenance can be a chore (check out this eyebrow hack by Beautchat editor Katherine). Filling them in manually every day, getting them trimmed, waxed or threaded on the regular, and the list goes on and on. I’ll be honest and say I am not the greatest at upkeeping my brows. They are sparse and few, and I can’t be bothered to get them threaded every month. Thankfully, K-Beauty brands have a way of innovating makeup in ways we’d never thought of before. Say hello to temporary tattoos! Today I’ll be reviewing the CLIO Kill Brow Dual Tattoo Pen. I’ve heard many good things about their regular eyebrow liner, so I was intrigued to see if this would be up to par.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

As per directions, simply fill in your brows as you normally would with an eyebrow pencil. It is recommended to apply at night, ideally after washing your face but before applying your skincare products. This is because your skin post-skincare will be “greasier”, thereby making it more difficult to apply precisely. Once you have your desired eyebrow shape, you can go ahead and continue the rest of your skincare routine, but avoid putting products on your eyebrows! You should then let the tattoo solution rest for at least 8 hours or overnight.

THE EASE OF USE

What’s great about the CLIO Kill Brow Dual Tattoo Pen is that it offers two tips for application, as well as an eraser in case you make mistakes. The first tip looks like a marker and is meant to fill the inside of the brows, whereas the finer tip is meant for those more refined edges and outlines.

Application is fairly straightforward and requires no special skills. It’s as easy as filling in your eyebrows during your regular makeup routine. If you’re afraid of messing up, you always have the eraser to remove those mistakes or start over. I particularly like the solution and design of the brush tips — super easy to manipulate and offers great precision. The last tattoo pen I tried had a very gooey solution and the brush lacked precision. Definitely a win for the CLIO pen.

THE LONGEVITY

Now here’s where I have some qualms about the tattoo pen. After only the first day, I felt the tattoo had faded so much that I ended up re-applying another layer. It actually looked fine when I woke up but after washing my face twice (morning and night), it looked significantly faded, hence the re-application. The second time around post-application, I tried to avoid my eyebrows while washing my face, to see if that would make any difference. I think it did, as you’ll see from the pictures below. However I didn’t keep this up for very long, as avoiding eyebrows while washing your face and applying skincare is a hassle I couldn’t be bothered with.

The result? After about a week of wear with regular face washing, the solution is still there but barely standing. I’d say it lasted a solid 2-3 days before it started to significantly fade and by day 7, it is now barely there. Not a bad result per se, especially considering the multiple face washes my eyebrows went through.

I apologize for the state of my unruly eyebrows

I can’t say I was blown away by the longevity of the “tattoo” — it is temporary after all. However, I was still pleased with the overall results. The pen definitely succeeded in giving my eyebrows a more natural look, even with some fading. While it did last a few days, there definitely would still require some finetuning with an eyebrow pencil for a more complete makeup look. For those casual days where I just went out for errands though, it was perfect.  Keep in mind that the results would probably have looked much better if my eyebrows had been trimmed, but alas I could not get an appointment in time insert crying emoji.

THE TAKEAWAY

While I was a little disappointed by the longevity of the CLIO Kill Brow Dual Tattoo Pen, I can’t complain either. It’s obviously not going to be as long-lasting or permanent as microblading. What it does do, however, is serve its purpose for those times when I’m too lazy to do my brows. Plus, the application is super easy! So if it does fade or you aren’t fully satisfied with the stain after the first few days, you can always re-apply as I did. The magic of this tattoo pen is that it’s relatively hassle-free. You can adjust and re-apply as needed, and leave it be when it’s not. For a quick solution to eyebrow maintenance, I’d give this product a chance!
